In lab 5.1 we observed that adding salt to ice lowers the melting point by a few degrees. Then by adding more salt it further lowers the melting point. The lowering of the melting point results from the ability of solute particles to interfere with the formation of solvent crystals.
In lab 5.2 we discovered that the boiling point of water rises when salt is added to water. Boiling point elevation takes place because solute particles interfere with the evaporation of a solvent.
